people rarely think about what tattoos do socially. most attention is placed on personal meaning. much less consideration is given to how a body is read from the outside.

and yet, perception happens immediately.

before conversation begins, before context is given, before intention is explained.

tattoos are not neutral. they participate in how a person is seen. they can reinforce familiar categories, confirm expectations, or signal belonging. in many cases, they do this automatically, without being noticed.

my work begins where that automatic reading breaks.

rather than adding another symbol or statement, the images interrupt recognition. they alter first impressions, dissolve stereotypes, and remove the wearer from known visual categories. attention shifts without instruction. something registers, even if it can’t be named.

this is not about decoration or self-expression in the usual sense. it’s about presence. about how an image changes the space a person occupies — quietly, immediately, and without explanation.
